Weddings in Summit County

For weddings of 20 - 250 people, there are many options available outside of the standard wedding venues in Summit County.

For weddings of 50 guests or less (including the wedding party), The Lodge at Carolina in the Pines is a wonderful spot for weddings and reception hosted inside our beautiful greatrooms.  We require a three night minimum rental of The Lodge for wedding weekends and hope that our brides to feel as though they are getting married in their own homes.  The Lodge has 12 BR/12.5 Baths and can comfortably accommodate up to 30 people overnight.  If you would like the option of an outdoor event while still allowing your group of 30 to stay overnight, please ask us about a new home in Breckenridge that offers a private and lovely outdoor setting for your mountain event.

Note: Our brides are free to use any vendor that they choose......we simply recommend the following because we have had excellent experiences with them....)

                                 CAKES:
Hearthstone:  (970) 453-7028

             CATERERS:
MiZuppa:  (970) 547-4797

Please talk to Stacey to discuss your ideas.  This is a small, storefront, mom and pop catering group that will wow you with their style and the quality of their food.  They specialize in small, intimate weddingsand can offer a lovely buffet feast for a fraction of the cost of the larger catering organizations.  Because each wedding is a unique and special experience for them, you can count on MiZuppas to tailor their foods and services to match your dreams while keeping down the costs to match your budget.

                                               Hearthstone Catering: (970) 453-7028

Hearthstone is the #1 caterer in the county and does an excellent job. You will end up paying for their experience and top-quality service, but many brides feel that Hearthstone is worth it.

CLERGY AND OFFICIANTS:
(Please read about Marriage Licenses (below) if you do not already have a clergy or officiant in mind. In the State of Colorado, couples are able to 'marry themselves' without the presence of an official ~~ a friend or your favorite uncle can guide you through the ceremony if you would like ~~ the wedding is legal and recognized in all fifty states.)

Father Rex
(970) 406-8282

Father Rex is a large bear of a man ~ kind and warm, you will never feel as though you are being married by a stranger.  He marries all denominations -- the only requirement for him is that you be in love.  He will marry you at one of our beautiful homes or wherever your wedding leads you.  He does require a little pre-wedding counseling, but I promise that you will enjoy every moment spent with him.

DECORATIONS:
Our homes are lovely as they are. However, many brides prefer to 'personalize' the space for their special day. We have lots of white bows, tulle, and ribbon to share with you! Our collection of wedding decorations grows with each wedding. You are free to decorate the houses in any way you would like without damaging walls, furniture, or floors ~ we simply ask that you return them to their original condition before you leave.

DEPOSIT AND PAYMENT:
In order to reserve your wedding dates, we require a $1000 non-refundable deposit. The balance of your total is due 90 days prior to your arrival. Please discuss your plans with us if you have decided on a date and are still waiting for commitment from your family members.

FLORIST:  Autumn Rose:  (970) 668-4466

Frisco Fun & Formal: (970) 668-5732

We will gladly act as your personal shoppers before your arrival to ensure that the kitchen is stocked with your choice of food and beverages. There is a minor fee of 20% added to the cost of the groceries.

HOUSEKEEPING:
Our housekeepers are available to help with getting the homes back into shape for your ceremony.  Please ask us for contact information and reserve their services in advance.

LICENSE INFORMATION:
See below

LIQUOR:
You are welcome to bring your own beer, wine, and champagne or contact us and we will help you with a nearby liquor store. (This is an enormous cost savings for most brides ~ it is not unusual for liquor purchased through a reception facility to be one of the most expensive elements of a wedding!)

                                    LODGE HOSTS:
Amy Carlson Phelps and Carol Kresge both live within 20 minutes of any of our homes and are available to help from behind the scenes to help you in any way to make your wedding weekend perfect. You can reach Amy at (970) 262-7500 or Carol at (970) 393-2271.

LODGING FOR OVERFLOW GUESTS:

Please contact us for help with overflow.  We can find a nearby home, condo, hotel, or recommend one of our other large homes if your overflow needs are great.

OUTDOOR WEDDINGS:  For weddings under 35, Sapphire Point (managed by the Park Service) is a wonderful option (see information below).  For weddings from 35 - 1000, the Town of Dillon offers some amazing and affordable options for outdoor weddings overlooking Lake Dillon.

The Lake Dillon Amphitheater - from 35 - 1000 people, you can rent the amphitheater for $500 for the day.  You can host 100 - 150 people on the stage if you antipate inclement weather.  There is an additional fee if you need AV services or electricity.  Approval to use the amphitheater is a lengthy process, so make your plans well in advance and contact Donna Rae at (970) 262-2403 for an application.

Crow's Nest - This is a a covered area overlooking the lake.  It is a beautiful structure with permanent tenting (it looks a little like the roofline of DIA) and can accommodate weddings up to 100 people.  The rate to rent Crow's Nest is $100 for 1/2 day and the process is relatively simple assuming that space is available.  Please contact Donna Rae at (970) 262-3403 for information.

There are a couple of additional sites in the park areas surrounding Lake Dillon.  Donna Rae can help you with information about the sites and rental options.

PRICING:
Pricing is very simple. All of our rates are for a three-night minimum rental of the home.  For very small weddings, weekday weddings, or weddings during our off season, we will consider shorter wedding rentals, but we encourage our brides to consider three nights so that they are not rushed during their special weekend.   In all cases, the cost is slightly higher than renting a similar number of hotel rooms, but certainly less than renting hotel rooms plus a wedding and reception facility.  We do not require the use of a particular set of vendors, so you are free to shop for the best rates and service. Also, you are free to bring your own alcohol and there is no need for a bartender at any of our homes ~ most couples set up their bar with beer and wine and ask the caterer to serve the first glass of champagne at the reception for a toast. (One thought for couples on a tight budget: Friends and family traveling into the area typically expect to cover their own hotel expenses. You can certainly request that they stay with you and pay for their room as they would a standard hotel room. They will be more comfortable than they would be at a Holiday Inn and can help defray the overall cost of your wedding.) Ultimately, a private home wedding is an economical and elegant alternative to the standard wedding venue

REHEARSAL DINNERS:

(Most couples host their rehearsal dinner at the houses.  You are free to use our fully-equipped kitchens and all of the homes have service for small armies.  You are also free to ask one of the local caterers to host your dinner at the house.  For a selection of local restaurants, please click here.

RENTALS:
Hearthstone Catering: (970) 453-7028

For extra chairs, tables, and dishes..... We have service for 20+ guests for rehearsal and for family dinners, but you will probably need additional linens, dishware, and glasses on your wedding day. We have 30 chairs in our great room ~ some brides rent a few more for guests during the ceremony. You may rent items from them even if you are not using their catering services.

RULES:
We do not allow shoes anywhere in our homes ~ slippers are provided at The Lodge at Carolina in the Pines or you are free to walk in your stocking feet (our beautiful hardwood floors are kept scrupulously clean). Brides sometimes wear ballet slippers. We also do not allow smoking in the homes or on the private room decks and there is a stiff fine if this rule is not strictly adhered to (the Colorado Mountains are considered high desert and fire danger is very high). Other than this, OUR home is YOUR home throughout your stay and we want you to feel as though you are getting married in your own living room with the Colorado Mountains as your backdrop. We ask that you love our homes as we do and return them to us in the condition that you found them......so that couples can enjoy their vows in them for years to come!

SAPPHIRE POINT:

The overlook at Sapphire Point offers stunning views of Lake Dillon Reservoir and the Tenmile Range.  It is located between Keystone and Breckenridge on Swan Mountain Road.  Sapphire Point is the only designated site where wedding ceremonies are permitted to take place in the Dillon Ranger District.  For more information regarding site reservations please call the Dillon Ranger District at (970) 468-5400.  Information and pictures of Sapphire Point Overlook can be viewed at http://www.dillonrangerdistrict.com/.

Colorado Marriage License Information

Remember - no matter what happens the day of your wedding, the only things you really need are the Bride, Groom, the marriage license, and a witness. Please read the following information before going to get your marriage license. It will save you from having to make two trips!

The Bride and Groom need to apply in person. If one of you is unable to apply in person, you will need to fill out an absentee application that has to be signed by a notary public. In the state of Colorado, the legal marriage age is 18. If you are under the age of 18, you will need to have a notarized consent form signed by a legal guardian. You will need to provide your Social Security card and one of the following forms of ID:

  • Valid Driver’s License
  • Passport
  • Birth Certificate with a raised seal
  • Other state or military ID
  • If either of you are divorced or widowed, you will need to provide the date, place, and type of divorce court your divorce was finalized in, or the date and place of death.
  • The Fee is $20 cash. You cannot pay with credit card or check.
The license is only good for 30 days. There is no waiting period, so it can be used right away. In the state of Colorado, blood tests are NOT required. In the State of Colorado the bride and groom can marry themselves or a registered minister, pastor, judge, magistrate, or certain Indian Tribe members can marry them. In other words, anyone (your cousin, a friend) can perform the ceremony (this is a lovely option for couples traveling to the area who do not have an established relationship with a minister). To make it legal the bride & groom must sign as the official on the marriage certificate and have one witness sign as the witness. The person performing the ceremony can sign as the witness or someone else can sign as the witness. You just have to make sure that the bride and groom sign the certificate so they are marrying themselves.

When you apply for the marriage license tell them you are marrying yourselves and have them show you exactly where to sign.
