Later in the Spring, the wildflowers bloom in the high country. Trails for beginners or for the experienced are everywhere taking the hiker over 10,000 feet and higher (a true Rocky Mountain high). Within Summit County, there are dozens of fine and exciting restaurants ~ Keystone Ranch has its own five star restaurant less than one mile from The House at Keystone Ranch. At the top of Keystone Mountain, you can enjoy Der Fondue Chessel and The Alpenglowe Stube ~ both accessed by gondola making dinner more of an event than a meal. But be careful, a glass of beer or wine goes alot further at this altitude. The Dillon Dam Brewery is the place for the perfect burger and some great beer brewed right on site. In Frisco, don't miss breakfast or lunch at Butterhorn Bakery ~ if you are a Reuben-lover, the Butterhorn serves the best one in the state. Boatyard Pizza (don't be confused by the name) has the best menu in town and you won't be able to find anything that isn't perfectly prepared and yummy ~ it is more upscale than the name implies, but your favorite pair of jeans is okay for anything or anywhere you may want to do in County. GROCERY/LIQUOR: There are two City Markets in the county, in Dillon and Breckenridge. City Markets are part of the Kroger chain and the cost are pretty reasonable for a resort grocery store ~ the selection of fruits, vegetables, and meats is outstanding. There is no Sams Club or Costco anywhere nearby (the closest is Denver), so if you hope to buy in bulk, do so before making the trip up the hill. Frisco has a Safeway and both Breckenridge and Keystone have little mini-grocery stores for last minute items. There is a health food grocery in Frisco at the far west end of town called Alpine Natural Foods ~ you can purchase groceries and prepared items. Breckenridge has a very small health food store on the corner of French and Lincoln streets ~ hours are sometimes hit and miss. There are liquor stores in every town, but none are open on Sundays. You can buy beer at the grocery stores, but it has a lower alcohol content than the liquor stores. |
